LONDON (AFP) - Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 2011 winner of the Miss World beauty pageant on Sunday at a glittering final ceremony in London.

Wearing a pink dress with diamante studs that had giant frills slashed below the waist, the 22-year-old threw her hands to her face as she was announced the winner.

Last year's Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, placed the sparkling crown on her successor's head. 'I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason,' Ms Sarcos said before winning the title.

'I believe the woman should be committed to the organisation and help people in need. Beauty with a heart', added the Venezuelan, who works for a broadcasting company and has a degree in human resources. Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the runner-up, while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came third in the contest, which was back in its home city to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Holly Carpenter, Miss Universities, was crowned Miss Ireland 2011 on August 13, 2011 at the D4 Berkeley Hotel in Dublin. Holly is 19 year old and stands 1.77 m. She will represent Ireland in Miss World 2011 Pageant. The first runner-up was Rebecca Maguire. The second runner-up was Aisling Alcock.

Rim El Tounsi of Tunisia was crowned MISS ARAB WORLD 2010 on December 7th in Cairo, Egypt. Eighteen young women of Arab descent competed in the annual pageant.

The pageant, which aspires to embrace the conservative nature of Arab culture, was criticized by two conservative contestants who felt uncomfortable with the excessive Western touch of the pageant. Al Zahraa Al Maleki, 21, had been representing Oman before pulling out.

“For me, this was wrong, especially as a woman from an Arab Gulf society,” she said. “I joined with the understanding that this was a cultural event, but after three days of wearing full makeup, standing for photo shoots and learning to walk on stage, I chose to go back to my classes,” she added.

Miss Kuwait, who was accompanied by her mother, left a few days later.

The 51 contestants taking part in the “Miss USA 2011″ pageant gathered in Las Vegas this weekend to kickstart the activities that will last for two weeks, concluding with the crowning of a new titleholder on June 19th. On Sunday, the beauties took part in a photoshoot at the Palms Place pool in the Palms hotel. This Monday, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino will roll out the red carpet for 51 of the world’s most beautiful women when the resort hosts the official Las Vegas welcome event for the 2011 MISS USA Pageant. The ceremony, hosted by Jeff Timmons, star of 98 Degrees and current resident guest star of Chippendales at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, and the reigning Miss USA, Rima Fakih, will kick-off two weeks of action-packed activities for the contestants who will reside in Las Vegas until the pageant is telecast live from Planet Hollywood on Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. 1 - Pick a multitonal eye-shadow palette, like the one at left. Prime your lid by patting on regular foundation — it'll form a base for your makeup to stick to.

2 - Dip the tip of a dampened makeup brush into the darkest shadow, and draw a line across your upper and lower lash lines.

3 - Before the shadow dries, look up and blink—this marks a line on your skin in the creases, which you'll want to fill up to with your contouring, medium shadow.

4- Rub the softest color in your palette above the creases and up to the brow bones to highlight.

5- Sweep the light, pearly shadow around the corners of your eyes to make them seem larger (you can even dust a little under your lower lashes to offset dark circles).

6- Trace on one last layer of the darkest color as liner, and smudge it with your finger or a cotton swab for a blurred effect.

The company behind popular Korean groups the Wonder Girls, whose hits include Nobody, and also 2PM and 2AM is holding auditions in Singapore next month to recruit new talent.

Korean talent management company JYP will be holding open casting calls on Dec 8, 9 and 11 at Agora Hall in Republic Polytechnic.

Those hoping for a shot at stardom can audition as long as they are born between 1983 and 2001, regardless of nationality and gender.

JYP is looking for talent in a range of categories including singing, acting, dancing, hosting and modelling.

Be prepared for some stiff competition: Auditions are also being held in Hong Kong on Dec 17 and 18 at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre.

Selected candidates will be notified in January and sent to South Korea to be trained by JYP.
